IT ALL STARTED WITH THE QUESTION, "YOU THINK YOU'D EVER MOVE AWAY FROM HERE"?
Shawn, better known as Porkchop, and Cynthia grew up in a small town in rural East Tennessee. Dating in high school, then going their separate ways, they reconnected in 2012. On the first date Porkchop asked Cynthia if she would ever leave their hometown. Before the question went out of his mouth, she was planning their future. That was eleven years ago, and they have never looked back. Shortly after they married, she sprung the news that she wanted to move to the Caribbean! Their next vacation they visited St Croix and thirteen months later they flew to their new home. Arriving after Hurricanes Irma and Maria, they dug in and started rebuilding the small atv touring business they had purchased. Building it from a barely known little tour, to one of the Caribbean’s top excursions in a few short years, they stood back in pride at what they had accomplished. So they took a vacation and celebrated. After only a few days of vacationing in Seward, Alaska, Cynthia had a question of her own.... "Do you think you'd ever leave the Virgin Islands"? After more than five years in the US Virgin Islands owning the ATV touring business, they picked up and moved to the frozen North. Late summer 2023, site unseen, they bought what would become Bear Necessities Cottages. Before ever stepping foot on the property they were already in love with its massive trees and precious cottages. Their goal is to bring back the gardens and gathering areas the property was once known for. They are a blended family with four girls that love adventure as much as they do. They each had their own role in the ATV business and are excited to pitch in with the cottages.
